How many people are saying today, “It’s a miracle more kids in Florida weren’t killed?”
In fact, it’s a miracle that that many were killed at all.
Despite 17 previous school shooting this year, the Lord worked through the good Christians in Congress to do nothing.
Despite rampant calls for gun control, the Lord worked through the good Christians in Congress to do nothing.
Despite supposedly cherishing life, the Lord worked through the good Christians in Congress to do nothing.
Despite the proven danger of angry white men like Nicholas Cruz turning into domestic terrorists, the Lord worked through the good Christians in Congress to do nothing.
Despite the many, many signs that people like Nicholas Cruz should not have guns, the Lord worked through the good Christians in Congress to do nothing.
Despite the fact that good, reliable and readily available mental health care would prevent people like Nicholas Cruz from murdering others, the Lord worked through the good Christians in Congress to do nothing.
Indeed how could the latest school shooting not be a miracle. Look at how many acts of devotions, albeit in inactions, were needed to make it happen?
Why did God want these particular 17 children dead? We cannot know. We might as well ask why He wanted all those other children shot this year or why He’ll want a hundred more dead in the next ten and a half months. He works in mysterious ways. We could ask: Did He need these children to teach their families a lesson or to bring their community together? Was it to demonstrate His power and our fragility? Was it to show that we can think and pray all we want, but He doesn’t have to listen? It’s too soon to talk about this, however. We shouldn’t politicize faith, and who are we to question the Lord anyway? Let’s leave that for the elite intellectuals in their big cities to discuss at the appropriate time.
Similarly, who are we to question the good Christians in Congress, His miracle makers, who have larger concerns on their minds?
Instead we should praise the Lord for working through His good Christians in Congress to do nothing and thereby showing that we should do nothing too. What’s the point of doing anything anyway if He wishes to work against us? Only by recognizing our hopelessness in the face of a God who would not just stand by and watch us die, but stay the hands of those good Christians in Congress charged with protecting us, can we be saved.
