Ah yes in the usual Neo-con diatribe Charles Krauthammer forgets the military option and proposes throwing money as a solution. Whatever happened to that gung-ho attitude?

Of course he bewails not maintaining the occupation of Iraq, and ponders why are we not fully embroiled in Syria. He bemoans Putin's great diplomacy in massing troops on the Ukrainian border, if only we would stop dithering and do the same.

Diplomacy is only diplomacy if you scream very loudly; if not a fully fledged temper tantrum at least stamp your foot he whines.

His solution, throw money at the situation and it will all be fine.

Yes, $15 billion is a lot of money. But it’s less than one-half of one-tenth of 1 percent of the combined E.U. and U.S. GDP. And expending treasure is infinitely preferable to expending blood. Especially given the strategic stakes: Without Ukraine, there’s no Russian empire.
Indeed the world would be such a fine place if everyone took an aggressive stance, what in fact Chuck is whining about is diplomacy; what he is propositioning is more aggression. The one thing he knows is that if the West take a more aggressive stance then Russia will also escalate its belligerence. We can then return to the hedonistic days of the cold war, so sorely missed by all.

As with all warmongers they always want to escalate the situation to such an extent that a war footing is taken and this in turn feeds their world view. There is nothing that might cannot resolve and interventionism is the only way forward.

I am trying to think of one imposition of democracy that has been a success when it hasn't come from its own people, of course as any good warmonger would argue; its because we haven't imposed it hard enough.

Oh and as Chuck knows deep in his little black heart, $15 billion is a pittance, especially if it reignites the cold war, then the money will just simply roll into the MIC.

As everyone knows

We will be welcomed with flowers, and in this 100th anniversary year of the start of WW1 they might well be poppies.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

the worst thing to have plagued America in the last 50 yrs.

They have goaded the country into far too many failed wars which have caused endless destruction, suffering and misery to millions of innocent human beings, have brought us to economic stagnation, and have more than tarnished our moral standing in the world.

But they don't give a fek, because the well-being of average Americans is the least of their concerns. It's all about kowtowing to special-interest groups and enabling the looting of other countries' resources by their crony predator-capitalists - while the US continues its steep decline economically and morally.

That's the big one the neocons are lusting after.
They're scared shitless that there may actually be a (gasp!) diplomatic solution to the nuclear issue.
    Where's the fun in that?

amazing to see Krauthammer (otherwise an outspoken Zionist) come out in support of what has happened there.

In effect a seizure of power by a protest movement which far from being democratic has been led by the nose by its most violent component: two extreme right-wing, truly neo-Nazi and violently anti-semitic groups, Svoboda and Right Sector whose avowed heros are the SS Division 14 "Galizien".

Perhaps Krauthammer needs to stop bloviating and do some reading.

NeoCon militarism still flickers, in sort of a wan and nostalgic  call for gunboat diplomacy, and a shot at the president, too.

Secretary of State John Kerry says Russian intervention would be a mistake. Alas, any such declaration from this administration carries the weight of a feather. But better that than nothing. Better still would be backing these words with a naval flotilla in the Black Sea.
A naval flotilla?  To do what exactly?   In the Crimea?  Are you nuts?

bitter because the neocon fantasy of occupying the Mideast long-term seems to be receding as a possibility. So I guess participating in a war in Ukraine is a consolation prize of sorts. It's in the same neighborhood anyway, so at least the troops would be there in anticipation of the glorious day when a Republican sits in the Oval Office again.

No one pledged NOT to hire mercenaries and send them to whatever 'hot spot' armed soldiers could be used... in lieu of the US military personnel.

The fact that neither Chuckie nor anyone else who has mentioned this decrease in military spending has mentioned mercenaries in one form or another disturbs me.  I don't know why for sure, but it does.

OTOH, who needs a lot of soldiers (or even mercenaries) on the ground when big kids using joy sticks can operate drones halfway around the world and still kill lots of people...?

What better way to kill people than to play a video game with real humans as the target? ... she writes, snarkily.

but to help people in this country? My god think of the immoral deficit burdening our grandchildren!

People like Krautie miss the old Soviet Union so damned much. Muslim terrorists just don't have the same pizzazz as international boogeymen. Putin gives them an opportunity to resurrect the glory of the Cold War days.
